Our Beautiful Burning World

What Do Any of Us Know About Life?

We pretend that we know the rules.
Go to school. Get a job. Get married.
Yada yada yada.

The universe never signed that contract.

Look at the world. Chaos.
War. Genocide. Hate.

Children born into rubble.
A planet that starves us while we beg for rain.

And yet—
We still water our houseplants (sometimes)
We argue about pizza toppings and set our New Year’s resolutions.

This is the great joke.
Not that life is meaningless,
but that we insist on meaning anyway.

We keep trying to put love onto collapsing infrastructure.
We dance in the ruins of it all.

I think that is the only rebellion left:
To plant flowers in the cracks all around us.
To laugh at the corny jokes.
To say “Good morning” to someone on the street
right after the news screams “The end is near!”

We are all just holding sparklers while the world burns. 🎇
Might as well make it beautiful.
