Becoming a Wellness Girlie (Without Losing My Damn Mind)

Wellness is all around us. I’ve been seeing it all over the internet. There is so much information. So many life-changing habits and routines that you have to try. Morning routines, night routines, mental health, sleep health, digital detoxes… the list goes on and on. It’s overwhelming. But what if “wellness” isn’t about doing more—but about finally listening to yourself?

Even though the space feels oversaturated, here’s the truth: I feel called to it. Not the trends, but the essence—finding ways to fuel my mind, body, and soul that feel like love, not labor. I believe every wellness journey is unique, but the common thread is this: when you slow down and listen, you can make any circumstance feel more nourishing.

According to the NIH, wellness is “a holistic integration of physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.” Sounds beautiful, right? So why did I turn it into a punishing to-do list?

At first, I tried to do all the things. Morning yoga. Cold plunges. Gratitude journals. I failed constantly. Online, everyone made it look effortless—why was I struggling to even go to bed on time? I felt broken. Spoiler: Nothing was wrong with me. I was just trying to wear someone else’s wellness like a dress that is too tight.

I don’t know what changed for me but I started with one tiny thing: water + ACV every morning. No guilt if I missed the rest. Slowly, I added more—not because I should, but because I wanted to. This wasn’t habit-stacking for productivity; it was self-trust in action.

I also quit trend-hopping. Let’s be real: wellness culture is expensive. I’d try a $50 serum for a week, then spiral when my skin didn’t transform. Wellness shouldn’t cost your peace (or your rent money).

So, what now? What do I need to do to transition into the wellness girlie of my dreams? First, I need to describe what that would mean for me. Do I already embody the characteristics of someone who is a wellness girl? Here’s my wellness girlie manifesto:

To me, a wellness girlie is someone who:

  • Eats for joy and nourishment—glow foods and gooey desserts.
  • Moves her body like it’s her favorite playlist—fun first, metrics last.
  • Protects her mental health like it’s her job (because it is).
  • Stays curious—no dogma, just exploration.

The best part? I’m already her. And if you’re reading this? You probably are too. ✨
